At the Starkloff Disability Institute, we help adults and youth with disabilities prepare for the next step in their professional life. Adults entering or already in the workforce have opportunities to build professional skills, network with business leaders, and find a job in their desired field. Youth can join programs and events that expose them to numerous career fields and help them build professional skills for the future. In the summer, we offer the DREAM BIG camp for teens to explore career options.
The Albert Pujols Wellness Center for Adults with Down Syndrome is the first of its kind in the St. Louis area and helps fill a growing need for wellness services for adults with Down syndrome. Patients ages 17 years and older receive a comprehensive physical and are referred to various services focused on nutrition, exercise, safety and social/emotional well-being. The center offers classes on various topics including yoga, music, fitness, performing arts, plus caregiver classes and programs. This service complements the patients’ regular visits with their primary care physician for other medical issues.

This week-long summer program is for children ages 8 and older who want to learn to ride a 2-wheel bike. Our 75 minute lesson uses a graduated method with 80% of our camp participants riding a typical two-wheel bike independently by the end of our 5-day program. We also welcome volunteer spotters who can run beside the riders as they learn. The Lydia Faith Cox Family Foundation was established in 2009 in memory of Lydia who filled us with joy for 3 beautiful years.
